Attention all North Carolina AAU Wrestling Clubs:

Please share this information with all your coaches & parents.

INDIVIDUAL POINTS  - FIRST PLACE 8 PTS - SECOND PLACE 6 PTS - THIRD PLACE 4 PTS - FOURTH PLACE 2 PTS - PARTICIPATION 1 PT

I just sent to the website the tabulation of individual points that will be used for seating individuals at the 2006 NC AAU State Wrestling Championship scheduled for March 11th at Cabarrus Arena in Concord, NC.  The intention is to seat the top 4 positions in each Division and weight class up thru Schoolboys.  It is the responsibility of Tournament Directors to get the data to the State Director after their events so that this data is available for the seating.  We do not have much choice but to use the available data.  Please feel free to encourage Tournament Directors to get this data sent to me.

TEAM POINTS

Competition has already heated up for Team Trophies this year.  In order to ensure proper accounting for Team points at tournaments the individuals representing a team must be on the roster of that Team (or Club).  For the State Tournament on March 11th only the individuals showing up on Club/Team rosters will be allowed to accumulate points for your team.  The Club Representative can access this using their AAU card number and the club code number on the AAU Website (www.aausports.org) under AAU Access Login.  Information on how to do this is currently posted with pictures of the screens used on the NC AAU Wrestling website (www.ncaauw.org).  If an AAU Card was purchased (either by the individual or the coach) without including the club code then they will not show up on your roster.  You can however go back and get your club code assigned to that card by sending the card number, name and club code to the state registrar thru www.ncaau.org.   Please also copy me on any lists or note sent to the state office.  Note time is running out to get your roster updated before the State Tournament.

The way Team points will be calculated at States is listed on the flyer.  In order to make sure everyone understands I am requiring each club to bring me a copy of their roster from the AAU Website. Mark or highlight participating individuals in the State Tournament along with division and weight class.  These will be the only individuals that can accumulate points for your Team.

Note that you cannot change clubs or combine clubs to form a team in order to try and win the Team trophy.   Any individual or club caught trying to cheat the system will be disqualified.  Note that I have access to all this data and have been keeping track of it all year.  Please do not make me have to take disciplinary action.  Take a moment to go back and read the AAU Code of Honor.  Word to the wise:  Do not think you can get a second AAU Card in a different clubs name to get around the system.  I will know.  I will base club membership on when the first card was purchased.  Please let me know if you have any questions on this issue.

TABLE WORKERS

So far I have only had three (3) clubs step up and volunteer to run tables at States.  We need workers for twelve (12) tables.  I need to know ASAP who all is planning to provide table workers so please contact me.  Note that table workers will have access to the hospitality room. I want to give them identification at weigh-ins. We will need some help at weigh-ins so if you can show up early and stay for the weigh-ins please let me know.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Attention all Coaches and Wrestlers:

The final version of the 2006 NC AAU State Championship flyer has been added/updated to the website. If you got a copy of this flyer on Wednesday (2/8) it had the wrong years for the divisions listed. If you got a copy of this flyer late on Thursday it had the divisions/weights corrected to match the current Standard Form but no information on available accommodations in the area. On the last posting of this flyer information has been added on local hotels holding rooms for our event at a discounted price. If you need a room please consider using these facilities and mention you are with the NC AAU Wrestling to get your discounted price. I apologize for the error on the first flyer and any concern that may have caused you. This was my error.

I am sure our State Tournament will be one of our biggest and best ever. Last year we had about 620 participants and used 8 mats in one session. Plans are to have 12 mats this year which gives us room to grow in number of State Tournament participants. In NC AAU Wrestling we have 1905 athletes registered and 325 non-athletes (coaches and volunteers) registered as of 02/09/06. Our numbers have been steadily increasing and after the High School season is completed it is expected that our athlete numbers will increase even more. These numbers show our potential for growth at our State Tournament. You should be able to start registering for this tournament next week. Please do not wait till you see a certain number in your division/weight class before registering. Be a leader and be the first to register in your division/weight class. This usually results in more participants verses everyone waiting.

Our 2006 NC AAU State Championships is scheduled for March 11th and is only open to NC residents. It will follow the Standard Form's division and weights used all year (with a few exceptions at some tournaments). We also have our Middle School Championships scheduled on Feb. 18th. This will follow the same format as in past years. There will not be a 6th grade champion and a 7th grade champion and an 8th grade champion at this tournament. There will be only ONE Middle School champion in each weight class at this tournament. We also have a NEW Elementary Championship tournament this year on March 4th. This tournament is for grades K thru 5th. It is broke down per our Modified Weights by Grade chart on our Standard Form. Again this is a NEW tournament. Plans for the Southern Nationals Tournament, scheduled for March 25th, is also well underway. We have had participants from up to 13 different states at this tournament.

Remember Southern Nationals has a cut off of 900 participants.

I know there are lots of questions on results and points. I am working on compiling this data and will get it posted as soon as possible. Please be patient and I will have this very soon. If you have burning questions concerning this contact me direct. I think things will be obvious for you once they are posted.

There is plenty of wrestling left for this season just check the schedule.

We have had some growing pains as some tournament hosts have hosted their first tournaments and our numbers have increased. I have received both positive and negative comments this year. Do not let one bad experience keep you from attending other events. NC AAU Wrestling is committed to making wrestling available to all and an enjoyable experience for all. We currently have 53 registered clubs that will have a vote at our next annual meeting. Club representatives should be prepared to bring your ideas to our annual meeting in June to make our organization better. I have been involved with NC AAU Wrestling for over 10 years and we have come a long way. There is no doubt that we can make things even better. My thanks to everyone who has worked hard this season to make NC AAU Wrestling the best it can be. I look forward to seeing each of you at future tournaments and meetings. Continue to be examples of good sportsmanship.
